It wont give you the quickest route if you already know where you are traveling (like to your home as one reviewer mentioned) but thats not the purpose of a GPS as I see it. If you are traveling in an area you do not know or trying to find an address then this does what it is supposed to do. The fact that it speaks the street names and exits is an extra plus that was not on some of the other comparable units. The maps may be two years old but so are most of the roads so not a big deal. Malfunctioned within Amazons "satisfaction Guaranteed" period    I bought this for around $70. Immediately out of the box it worked superbly. The interface is very user friendly and the graphics are very eye pleasing. One big problem was the volume. I had the unit on at full volume and the noise volume inside my car (while driving it at 55mph) just overwhelms the voice of the GPS. Also if I have the radio turned on at normal pleasant volume the GPS becomes almost impossible to hear. This shortfall immediately made me think of returning it right away but the big pluses were the pleasant graphics and user-friendly interface and the great low price I got it for. At this point I was 50-50 on whether to return it or keep it. Luckily the GPS made the decision easy for me by totally freezing up on me within 2 weeks of heavy usage. It would never go beyond the Magellan start-up screen. Then it got worse the units screen just wouldnt light up anymore.
